Creating the perfect Shelfie

By now, we’ve all heard of the selfie...but the newest trend to make a statement on social media is the Shelfie.

A popular hashtag with over 2.3 million Instagram posts related to it, you’ll be spoilt for choice when browsing the web. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you stand out from the insta crowd and nail your shelfie style.

Shelves are a great way to demonstrate your styling skills and display some of your beloved home accessories or favourite book collection and become an endless source of fascination to look at.

1. It’s all about balance

The perfect shelfie has a perfect balance of accessories featured on and around your shelves. Don’t have all the big items at one end of the shelf, space it around and create an even flow throughout the shelves. You want a good mix of your staple pieces and then your filler accessories.

2. Curate your colour palette

As always, we would suggest sticking to a relatively minimal colour palette as too much colour can become a headache. Sticking to two or three colours is a good rule of thumb and then play around with different shades. Also, try not to bunch too many colours in one place, referring back to rule number one - it’s all about balance.

3. Incorporate natural elements

Add some movement and a pop of colour with some flowers or plants on your shelves.

4. Show off your book collection

Shelves are a perfect way to show off what you’ve been reading. Whether it’s timeless classics or even trendy magazines! Experiment with grouping books together by colour, height or mix it all up!

5. Three is the magic number

When styling things together, generally people prefer them to be in odd numbers as it fixes your gaze on grouping them together and then encourages you to look around the room. It doesn’t have to be the rule of three, but it’s a good starting point!
